Since I love animals, it was not a tough decision to budget some of my volunteer time to help out at the APS when I moved to Friday Harbor last year. What I wasn’t expecting was to find that it’s so much fun! Everyone is always glad to see us volunteers: the dogs, the cats, and the people! It’s a clean, bright, happy place, where every animal gets just what they need to thrive until they find their forever home. That’s important to me, because it’s far from the depressing place that some shelters have become. I don’t always have time to get to know the dogs, especially, because they find homes so quickly. But that’s good news, and this shelter is full of good news and cheerful people. It makes it a very satisfying place to spend some time keeping it special. ~ Kim G
I volunteer at the Animal Shelter because like humans dogs and cats have their own distinct personalities. The animals at the Shelter are in transition either from a loving home that can no longer care for them or from an abusive or neglected situation. My hope is by giving these dogs and cats some love and attention it will provide some comfort during their time waiting to be adopted into a new home. ~ Tim S
