Georgia Keune

Please join us in celebrating Georgia Keune, honored as the Volunteer of the Month for June 2024 by the Animal Protection Society – Friday Harbor!

This month, we are thrilled to honor Georgia, a dedicated and vibrant volunteer who has become an indispensable part of the APS-FH animal care team. A high school junior, Georgia manages to balance a demanding schedule filled with studying, soccer, tennis, and a profound commitment to volunteering.

Since joining APS-FH in August of last year, Georgia has stood out for her fun and positive attitude, her keen ability to follow directions, and her proactive nature in always finding something to do. “Georgia is very adaptable, great at multitasking, and has an impressive work ethic,” praises the animal care team.

Volunteering is more than just a pastime for Georgia; it’s a way to give back to her community. This dedication extends beyond APS-FH, as she also volunteers with her high school and soccer team.

For Georgia, volunteering is not only about helping those around her but also about paving her way to college, where she plans to study criminology with aspirations of becoming a lawyer.

Georgia’s passion for animals was ignited early on, growing up in a family of animal lovers. Surrounded by cats and chickens at home, and with a mom who works with horses, Georgia has always had a deep connection with animals. Despite her broad love for all creatures, cats hold a special place in her heart.

Her favorite part of volunteering at the shelter is meeting the new cats that come in and getting to know their unique personalities. “They’re all different and have quirks and funky little things  about them,” she shares with a smile.

For those considering volunteering at APS-FH, Georgia offers enthusiastic encouragement: “Just go for it! It’s a great way to give back to the community, meet animals, and people!”

We are incredibly grateful to have Georgia as part of our team. Her dedication, adaptability, and unwavering spirit makes her a shining example of the impact one individual can have through volunteerism. Thank you, Georgia, for your outstanding contributions and for being such an inspiring member of our community!
